Free VPN plans: compare the limits, then test your connection

A free VPN can protect a connection without a subscription, but data allowances, server choice and supported features vary. This comparison separates published plan details from measurements you can make on your own device.

Public IP and WebRTC checks are available here. Active DNS and IPv6-only route checks are temporarily unavailable.

Independent speed and leak measurements for these plans have not been performed. Use the test on your own connection; plan allowances are not performance scores.

What this comparison measures

Plan information was reviewed against the providers' official pages on October 5, 2026. We have not run independent speed, streaming or leak measurements for these two plans and do not assign invented scores. The table describes published allowances, not a guarantee of performance on your network.

An account, country list or allowance may change. Follow the source link before downloading. We link to official providers, rather than offering third-party installers or asking for VPN credentials.

Choose a free VPN for your actual use

For occasional browsing, compare the traffic allowance with the amount you use in a month. Video consumes an allowance much faster than text pages. Unlimited traffic can be useful, but does not imply unlimited server choice or access to every streaming service.

A phone app and a browser proxy extension can protect different traffic. Check which applications the selected client routes through its tunnel. Confirm the provider supports your operating system and the features you need before treating the connection as protected.

How to test a free VPN

Open the VPN test while disconnected and note the public IP and network owner. Connect the VPN, reload the page and compare the result. Run the WebRTC, IPv6 and DNS tests separately because changing one public address does not confirm every route.

A free VPN can be working even when its exit address is not in our known relay lists. A detected VPN address also does not prove that every application is protected. Look at the routing changes and browser checks together.

Privacy questions to ask

Read the privacy policy and check who operates the service, which connection data it processes and how the free plan is funded. Published no-logging claims are provider statements; a browser test cannot independently verify server-side retention or encryption.

Keep account passwords and recovery details on the provider's official site. Free VPN Test tests a connection without needing your VPN login or payment information.

When a paid VPN may make sense

A paid plan may provide more countries, traffic, simultaneous connections or support. Those features help only when they match your needs. A subscription does not remove the need to check split tunneling, browser exposure and DNS routing.

Choose based on the limitations that matter to you, then repeat the same connection tests after an app update or a change of device or network.
